Waterrat Gairyunichattai.

Member of the Priesthood of Fish

Full Title: Venerable Father Waterrat Gairyunichattai the Abbot of Fish.

Occupation: Former High Priest of Fish, Ambassador to the Agatean Empire and Columnist of the Green Slab, retired.

Nationality: Agatean.

Citizenship: The Agatean Empire.

Gender: Male

Description

He has a distinct marine look to him, probably because he has the athletic swimmers build that so many priests of Fish seem to develop. Although it could just as easily be the weathered qualities of his deeply bronzed skin, beaten by storms and the salt of coastal air, or the blue and grey dreadlocks tied together on his back, who can tell? There is a very strong quality of relaxedness about him and he has a certain swing to his step as if listening to the rhythm of life.

Personal Story

Waterrat was born in the laid back environment of the Brown Islands, halfway between the Agatean Empire and Ankh-Morpork. He is the child of a sailor and one of the merfolk, which would account for his strangely marine looks and his love of swimming and ships.

At the age of 19 he ended up in Ankh-Morpork, stepping onto the docks and instantly being drawn to that coral reef structure of the Temple of Fish. He immediately knew what his purpose in life was and joined the clergy of Fish. He has been a devoted and active priest of Fish ever since. After reaching high ranks in the Ankh-Morpork temple of Fish he left for that mysterious land known as the Counterweight Continent or as the natives call it, the Agatean Empire. Although he now officially lives in Bes Pelargic, educating the Agateans about the teachings of Fish and converting the unbelievers, he loves to spend his semi-retired life on the Brown Islands. Sometimes he still comes back to Ankh-Morpork to visit the temple and priests there.
In his turbulent career as a Fishite priest, he stunned the clergy by winning the first High Priest election in which he entered after Captain Skipper's retirement. He was and remains a very opinionated priest of Fish, at one point resulting in the treatise 'The Way of Fish', laying out the guidelines for the ascetic path of Fish-worship. In his several periods as High Priest (alternating the position with Tarzan), he was instrumental in the annexation of the Brown Islands as holy grounds of the joint temples of Fish under Fishite and Agatean Law. He also tried hard to set up an ecumenical council of High Priests to regulate the Priests Guild, a plan which ultimately failed in the massive re-election for all High Priest positions on the basis of just this point. Besides his position as clergyman of Fish he has also functioned off and on as ambassador for the Agatean Empire during several political happenings and wrote columns for the Green Slab for a while, always under a pseudonym.

It is rumoured that Waterrat is one of the founding members of a Fish Triad operating in both Ankh-Morpork and Bes Pelargic, using priests and Fish worshipping assassins to further their power and influence (as is common in Agatean society). Some say the whole temple of Fish is just a front and that all Fishites are involved in this. They are but rumours though.

Comments

I'm usually quite casual in roleplay, though I try to remain as in-char as possible I quite often tend to be OOC on talker channels other than Fish and Priests. I do love roleplay events and have taken part in a fair number quite a while ago.
