She's in her mid twentys, and impressively still somewhat thin, what with all those University dinners. She still has a sparkle in her eyes and a spring in her step. Teaching "Introduction to Conjuring" hasn't fazed her at all, and that's saying a lot.
Tanya first came to Unseen University not as a student, but a maid. The bits and pieces of lectures she heard through the cracked doors faccinated her, though, and it wasn't long until she was sitting in when she had time off from her chores. When she started handing in assignments, professors simply assumed that she was a keen student, and by the time they realised their mistake, she already had her diploma.
Tanya is not a natural to magic, though her hard work at it pays off. Her prior skill with slieght of hand has helped her immensely as an illusionist. Possibly her most natural skill, though, is that of an administrator, which helps nicely in her role as Senior Hoodwinker.
Tanya was born the oldest of 6 to a family living in the Shades. It was a hard life, and she spent much of her childhood begging, stealing, and rearing her younger brothers and sisters while her parents worked. Happily, though, she was able to have a rather bare-bones education, given by a literate (if rather senile) grandfather. As soon as she was old enough, she was sent to work at the Unseen University to help feed the family. When she chose to study magic there, she became rather estranged from her family. They would have preferred her to give up her education and work instead. Now, she keeps up almost no contact with any of her family members, aside from one sister who left that close-knit family to become a mercenary.
When introducing herself, she calls herself only, "Tanya of the Hoodwinkers". Mrs. Whitlow (and Tanya, and her family) probably know her last name, but to everyone else, it's been lost.
I am not a strict roleplayer, though I think that roleplaying is one of the funnest aspects of the disc. My tells are almost always OOC, but I try to keep my in-room communications as in-Character as possible.
