Description

Funderburk is a stout, heavyset young man in his late twenties, with thick, tousled dark hair, tan complexion, teal blue eyes, and a long goatee that is concentrated around his chin. He has the look of a man who is oblivious, bewildered, confused, and above all else, lazy. Due to his dark and ruddy features, he is sometimes erroneously believed to be Klatchian (there may be some Klatchian stock in his family tree, but he won't admit it).

Personal Story

Funderburk was drawn to magic at an early age, seeing in UU's faculty an opportunity for convenient power, without requiring a lot of work (outside the study of magic, of course). As a youth, he stole a pie from his mother's windowsill and offered it to a former archchancellor of UU, who was so flattered that he patted the boy on the head and told him he'd put in a good word for him if he wanted to apply at UU when he reached a suitable age. He was quick to take him up on the offer, and by age twenty-seven, had already risen up the ranks to become a Fourth Level wizard, out of only eight possible levels (the archchancellor occupying the illustrious eighth level). He loves food, is heavyset and lazy, although he is not quite as lazy as most wizards - he does like to adventure and is more eager to show off his magical prowess than a good wizard should be. Still, his official adjunct position at Unseen University, Professor of Apathy, is both a front to show his peers how relaxed and unambitious he is, and also a brilliant excuse for never having any students to teach (they're doing their apathy homework by not bothering to show up for lessons). Now he can usually be seen traveling around the Disc, or hanging around Short Street hawking his wares, or at Tarnach's, hawking their wares.

Family Story

Funderburk's family is at the upper end of middle class, but otherwise conspicuously unremarkable or unworthy of particular mention or notice. There has been no prior history of men in his family graduating from, or even attending, Unseen University, so he is something of an anomaly. His family lives on the Ankh side of town, and prefer to keep to themselves.
